The Really Wild Show: Programme 1
(1986)
This award-winning children's TV series is widely acclaimed for its friendly, entertaining style and its educational, scientifically accurate content. Hugely successful, it ran for twenty years, finally ceasing production in June 2006.
After helping the BBC devise the show, Terry Nutkins presented the first episode, together with accomplished naturalist Chris Packham and zoologist Nicola Davies. The trio took an unscripted approach with the children in the audience, only bringing out the animals for the final takes, thereby capturing the genuine joy and fascination the creatures created.
A well-researched, utterly engaging animal extravaganza, the first episode paved the way for the rest of the series, pioneering the fun-filled, informative format that went on to characterise this hugely popular show.
