Badger Watch
(1977)
A unique opportunity to observe a colony of wild badgers, Badger Watch was a week of live nightly broadcasts from a large sett in Gloucestershire. Through special remote control cameras and infra-red technology, presenter Bruce Parker brings to life an extraordinary world of underground fights, playful cubs and furtive night-time activities.
Regarded by many as a true symbol of the British countryside, the ten minute slots provided an intriguing insight into badger life. Featuring naturalists and badger experts Chris Cheeseman and Ernest Neal, this mini-series was hugely popular, pioneering the 'live' format now seen on many wildlife shows. A forerunner of Bill Oddie's successful Springwatch, Badger Watch increased the nation's understanding and helped raise awareness of our interesting nocturnal neighbours.
