The World About Us (1967 - 1987): Tree of Thorns
(1980)
The umbrella-like, thorny Acacia tree is home, larder, food, shade and hunting-ground for a wealth of African creaures. But it is the making of such trees, the long struggle from seedling to thorn bush and to full maturity over more than a century, that has the greatest implications for the future of these African woodlands. It is a story of striving for space, of coping with threats of drought and fire, and how the interaction of the thorn tree with animals like the elephant, the giraffe and even the tiny beetle is re-shaping the African bush.
Winner of the education category at the Columbus Film Festival in Ohio in 1982.
