The expedition explores the gorge - as grand as the Grand Canyon. the most famous inhabitant is the Nile crocodile (Crocodylus niloticus), closest living relative of the dinosaur. The Tissisat Falls are among 'the most stupendous sight in all creation', according to James Bruce, first Briton at the source of the Blue Nile 200 years ago this month (November 1970). Playing in the ravine forest, colobus monkeys, whose incredible acrobatic skill is revealed in the poetry of slow motion. On Lake Tana, an island sea, a teeming water-bird city for 10,000 inhabitants, guarded by a Coptic priest.
