Two in the Bush  (1978)

Life as a wildlife camera team

A behind-the-scenes view of an adventurous pair of wildlife filmmakers, Two in the Bush is a compilation film telling the story of award-winning cinematographers Alan and Joan Root. Detailing how they achieved some of their most remarkable and dangerous footage the documentary brings to light their skill, patience and overall passion for the natural world.

Broadcast as a Survival Special, the production highlights the Roots’ legendary risk taking; Alan is littered with scars from hippo bites and lost a finger to a death adder. Amazing footage highlights Joan sticking her face towards a black necked cobra, all for the split second shot of it spitting venom.

This unique film gives an intriguing insight into a very special couple – Alan once affirmed that the marriage was crucial to his life - how else would he know the depth of a river before driving into it?
