A co-founder of Anglia Television, Aubrey Buxton entered broadcasting presenting Countryman on regional television in the late 1950s. In 1959 Anglia Television was established and Aubrey started to develop Anglia's renowned natural history strand – Survival. Aubrey appeared himself in the first programme, The London Scene, sitting in his Bentley in Highgate watching a fox tip the top off a dustbin while looking for scraps.
As Managing Director of Anglia, Aubrey Buxton broke into the American television market. In 1968 the Survival Special, Enchanted Isles, was bought by NBC for $430,000, and became the first ever British natural history film to be shown on the American network.
The same year Aubrey Buxton was awarded the Royal Television Society's Silver Medal for "outstanding work behind the camera", and in 1977 he was presented with the Gold Medal. Aubrey Buxton was made Lord Buxton of Alsa in 1978 and is currently the Vice President of WWF and an Honorary Fellow of Cambridge University.
