A Question of Space  (1984)

Kenya's escalating struggle for space

An intriguing insight into the escalating issue of land management in Kenya, A Question of Space examines the methods and technology used to chart this large expanse. From solitary technicians surveying at ground level to satellite images encompassing entire terrains, the production provides an in-depth view of competition within this great and varied land.

Through the world-famous cinematography of the BBC Natural History Unit narrator Iain Guest brings to life the wealth of creatures struggling for space in Kenya’s diverse ecosystems. Photographed by Tim Johnson, aerial shots beautifully capture the huge areas dominated by cultivated land and the circling silt plumes that are choking the country’s magnificent coastal coral.

A memorable account of a beautiful land ravaged by erosion, desertification and water shortages, A Question of Space uses an engaging format to explore an ongoing environmental crisis.
