A Lemur's Tale  (1997)

New arrivals in the forests of Madagascar

A touching and intimate portrayal of the ring-tailed lemur, award-winning wildlife filmmaker Adrian Warren spent five months in Madagascar's Berenty forest exploring the fascinating world of these distinctive animals.

Providing a captivating glimpse into a year in the life of a lemur, the production starts just after the birthing season, focusing on fragile new arrival, Sapphire, an unusual pure white lemur. Capturing the troop's daily struggle to survive, the film offers an interesting insight into their evolution, behaviour and incredible teamwork.

With portable towers and cranes used for remarkable treetop shots, stunning cinematography details these pint-sized primates as they mark their territory, groom one another and bask in the bright sunlight. Providing an intriguing glimpse into the lemur's social psychology, deeply moving scenes depict the troop's reactions to Sapphire's final days and the fatal fall of an infant male.

A Lemur's Tale is an absorbing, highly entertaining and deeply moving account of Madagascar's most social primate.
