The River Wolves: Giant Otters of Peru  (1999)

Astonishing wildlife of the Arubian rainforest

Deep in the Amazon, The River Wolves: Giant Otters of Peru provides an absorbing exploration of the oldest, largest and most aquatic member of the otter family.

A Partridge Films production, this fifty minute film enlists the talents of Andrew Shillabeer, Graham MacFarlane and Nick Gordon, their impressive photography charting the otters' behaviour as they guard their dens, issue alarm calls, catch fish and rear their 'kits'. As they rigorously defend their territory, memorable scenes examine their relationship with the neighbouring black caimans.

Filming in the dense and isolated waterways, most of the production was recorded from boats via long lens cameras and, due to the elusive nature of these rare creatures, virtually all the footage captured appears on screen.

The River Wolves: Giant Otters of Peru provides a poignant glimpse into these hugely charismatic, yet highly endangered carnivores.
