Under the Red Sea  (1952)

Also known as: Abenteuer im Roten Meer
Hans and Lotte Hass

In the salt ridden Red Sea, oceanographer, bestselling author and world famous marine photographer Hans Hass explores the alien world of underwater communication. Packed with extraordinary footage, the film details a wealth of marine behaviour never captured on film before, including the first ever pictures taken of a whale shark underwater.

Featuring Hass’ glamorous wife Lotte, this feature-length documentary was popular with cinema audiences and critics alike - a huge commercial success, it won first prize at the 1951 Venice Film Festival. Based on his book Diving to Adventure, Abenteuer im Roten Meer (Under the Red Sea) is an intriguing insight into a beautiful and diverse ecosystem.

Abenteuer im Roten Meer is available as part of the POLARFILM Hans Hass Klassic-Edition.
