Underwater Stalking  (1939)

Also known as: Pirsch unter Wasser

Diving in the Caribbean waters surrounding the island of Curacao, marine zoologist, bestselling author and deep sea photographer Hans Hass explores the vast coral cities that dominate this ‘alien’ underwater world.

A bewitching portrayal of the marine environment, Pirsch Unter Wasser (Underwater Stalking) opened the public’s eyes to the wonders lurking beneath the ocean’s surface. Detailing a wealth of fish life, the production highlights the beauty of this ‘totally different world’, including impressive footage of the reefs, their striking coral fish and a 4m hammerhead shark.

Now recognised as a pioneer of the industry, Pirsch Unter Wasser was Hass’ first foray into marine cinematography, and as one of the first underwater films to gain wide public attention it laid the foundations for a long and extremely successful career.

Pirsch unter Wasser is available as part of the POLARFILM Hans Hass Klassic-Edition.
