Africa's greatest oasis is where the Okavango river spills into the Kalahari desert. It's a mystery of lagoons and islands where squeaking Catfish hunt in packs and Tiger fish terrorise the channels. The floating reeds are home to the shy Sitantunga antelope, where reed frogs serenade through the night, and Pel's owl catches fish in spectacular fashion. These are just some of the colourful inhabitants of Africa's living jewel.
Regarded as one of his classic films, Mike Rosenburg, the founder of Partridge Film and producer of this piece, describes editing down the huge range of bird, mammal and reptile behaviour as a “ghastly experience”. The wide acclaim this atmospheric production was met with, and the coveted Golden Panda Award it won at Wildscreen 1988, suggest however, his efforts probably were not in vain.
