The Living Isles: A Natural History of Britain and Ireland: After the Ice  (1986)

Also known as: Programme 1
Ice age Britain

Investigating present day parallels with the ice age, After the Ice is the first of a ten part series celebrating the diverse landscapes and varied flora and fauna of the British Isles.

Made by renowned BBC Natural History Unit producer Peter Crawford, the series enlisted the talents of numerous award-winning wildlife cameramen. Providing an enchanting glimpse into an ancient and frozen Britain, it included work from Simon King, Maurice Tibbles and Martin Saunders.

Impressive photography from the large and experienced camera crew examines the present day creatures that still bare the signs of a frozen past. Pure white arctic hares camouflage on snowy backdrops, as the feathered feet of ptarmigans insulate them against the icy ground and golden eagles soar over rugged mountain ranges.

Beautifully filmed, After the Ice is an absorbing account of survival in the barren and ice dominated landscape.
