Countryman  (1960)

Eccentric wildfowlers

One of a set of natural history programmes from Anglia Television, Countryman follows Aubrey Buxton, one of its founders and Chief Executives, as he seeks to discover more about the wild ducks of Blakeney in Norfolk.

Despite being incredibly common birds and popular with the local community as both food and sport - the locals take great pleasure in outwitting the wild birds on the bleak and lonely salt marshes - little was understood about the habits of the wild duck.

In this charming, short film, Aubrey investigates the behaviour of the wildfowl with Billy Bishop, the official warden of the marshes at Cley and a great personal friend. Together they attempt to reveal the mysteries of the wild duck on the north Norfolk coast, a famous centre for wildfowlers for many generations and home to Aubrey Buxton himself.
